My ceramic sculptures are built using a handbuilding method I developed, in which color is integrated directly into the construction of the form. I roll individual porcelain coils through Mason stains and underglazes before assembling them, allowing color, surface, and structure to develop simultaneously. Drawing from my background in painting and drawing, I use these colored coils as both structural and painterly elements, building forms through repetition, layering, and accumulation.

My sculptures explore the visceral qualities of the body through folds, openings, cavities, and compressed forms. Rather than representing recognizable anatomy, I am interested in evoking a bodily response, a sensation that comes before the ability to name or identify what one is seeing.
